The Institute of Health and Nutrition Sciences was created in 2015, and it continues the traditions of the Chair of Public Health.
The scope of scientific research of the Institute academic staff concerns the area of medical, biomedical and biophysical sciences as well as interdisciplinary research in the field of clinical psychology and psychiatry. The Institute consists of Photonanotechnology Lab, Environmental Health Lab and the Lab for Diagnostics and Prohpylaxis of Sensomotor Integration, Health Promotion and Health Education. The laboratories are equipped with test stands for non-linear optics, rheometry, spirometry, electric membrane potentials, and membrane transport. The test equipment enables conducting research and cooperation with other academic centers in Poland and worldwide.
In the past 15 years, the employees of the Institute have obtained the following academic titles and degrees: prof. dr hab. Andrzej Ślęzak – the academic title of professor of physical sciences (2006), dr hab. Katarzyna Oźga was awarded a postdoctoral degree in technical sciences (2014), dr hab. Jacek Jóźwiak attained a postdoctoral degree in medical sciences (2014), dr Aleksandra Zyska achieved a doctoral degree in medical sciences (2007), and dr inż. Arkadiusz Bryll was conferred a doctoral degree in physical sciences (2010).
The employees of the Institute cooperate with several academic and research centres: University of Leicester (Great Britain), University of Regensburg (Germany), Université d’ Angers (France), University of Groningen (the Netherlands), Medical University of Silesia, Collegium Medicum of Jagiellonian University, Medical University of Poznań, Military Technical Academy, Silesian Analytical Laboratories, Jan Kochanowski University, Katowice University of Economics, Chorzów School of Banking.
