The Department of Regional Development was established at the Faculty of Management in 2012, and in 2015 it was transformed into the Chair of Regional Studies and Management of Sustainable Development. Its scientific activity is dominated by a widely understood land development combined with environmental protection, enterprise management, and territorial development. Noteworthy is the local context of the research, since the majority of the research and educational activities concentrate on the issues connected with Częstochowa and the northern sub-region of the Silesian Voivodeship, in particular, the northern part of the Krakow-Częstochowa Uplands.

The most important scientific achievement of the Chair is its publishing activity. The Chair staff regularly publish their research results in numerous periodicals, and monographs in the largest publishing houses on a global scale.

Another fact worth attention is the expert and counseling activity of the employees of the Chair at the local, regional and supra-regional level and internationalization, the effect of which is participation in international joint projects, research and publications.

The Chair staff are active members of numerous national and international scientific associations, such as Commission of Management and Organization Sciences of Polish Academy of Sciences Katowice Office, International Society for Professional Innovation Management, Association of American Geographers, Regional Science Association, The International Geographical Union.
