The unit started its activity in 2002 as an independent Department of Linguistic Applications in Management; and in 2005, it was transformed into a Chair. The founder and the Head of the unit is prof. zw. dr hab. Julian Maliszewski. In 2016 the name of the unit was changed into the Chair of Business English.
The Chair staff conduct studies into applying linguistics and translation achievements in the areas of business, trade, law, and economics. The Chair staff members participate in national and international linguistic conferences and the research issues include widely understood business linguistics, specialized translation as well as various issues connected with multicultural communication in business and specialist varieties of the English language.
In 2005, dr hab. Julian Maliszewski, prof. PCz received the title of full professor of humanities form the President of the Republic of Poland. In 2003-2011, seven of the present and former employees of the Chair received a doctoral degree in humanities: dr Joanna Krzemińska-Krzywda – 2005; dr Alina Bryll – 2006; dr Aleksandra Radziszewska – 2007; dr Iwona Sikora – 2008, dr Marek Zasempa – 2009, dr Krzysztof Przygoński – 2011, dr Marta Wiśniowska – 2011.
